At the malls...

Oakbrook Center has a full fall schedule

The 48th Annual Invitational Fine Art Exhibition, comes to Oakbrook on September 4-5. Enjoy the gallery setting in the beautiful park-like grounds of Oakbrook Center. This show is always ranked as one of the “Top 200 Best Shows in the Country.” Last year, 140,000 patrons made this a premier event for the Greater Oak Brook area. Over 150 artists are scheduled to display their works on Saturday from
10am to 7pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm. Admission is free.

September 10 is Fashion’s Night Out from 5-9pm, a global celebration of fashion, modeling and shopping. Refreshments, trunk shows, mini-makeovers, massages, special offers and much more make this an unforgetable event. The first 300 customers receive an exclusive Fashion’s Night Out glambag. Special events include a chance to win a $500 Shop, etc. gift card by making a donation to Aspire. As a thank you for your donation, receive a branded t-shirt and a personal stylist to help you accessorize it. Patrons will vote and the favorite style wins the certificate. And the first 50 customers to spend $200 or more during the event will receive tickets to a dress rehearsal of the smash hit production of Traces.

The bears have come to Oakbrook Center! They’re here to celebrate the opening of Brookfield Zoo’s Great Bear Wilderness. Four unique, hand carved sculptures are on display throughout the Center through October 4.

Yorktown has something fishy planned

Visit Yorktown Center on September 18 or September 25 from 11am-3pm and have a hands-on experience with members of the Shedd Aquarium staff. In conjunction with the visit, spend $175 at any Yorktown store or restaurant and receive a FREE Shedd pass. Visit Yorktown Guests Services with same day receipts to receive your pass. There is a limit of two per customer per day while supplies last.

The early evening Farmer’s Market will continue through October 6. Every Wednesday from 3pm-6pm find a wide variety of vendors bringing you everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, breads, and flowers to pasture-raised, antibiotic free pork and more.

Tuesday, September 14, 10am-3pm, is the 4th annual DuPage Women’s Health Fair. This event is sponsored by Representatives Sandra Pihos and Patti Bollock. Free health assesments are given and promotions, drawings, and speakers are featured throughout the day.

Oak Brook Library hosts the Presidents

Don’t miss the “Presidents and Their First Ladies” September 12 at 2pm. The creation of husband and wife team William and Sue Wills, the program brings to life the story of Andrew and Eliza Johnson, the 17th President and his wife. Hogwarts School is in session!

Come aboard the Hogwarts Express and be transported to Hogwarts School on September 12 from 9am-12:45pm. Wear your costume and meet at platform 9-3/4 at the Downers Grove Main Street station. The Sorting Hat will sort students into their appropriate Houses. The School includes brunch with the professors, a magic show and secrets. Get on board for the Underground Railroad Journey!

Experience a magical evening at the Graue Mill and meet legendary UGRR conductor Harriet Tubman, orator Frederick Douglass and local conductor John Coe. Visit the room in the mill where miller Frederick Graue provided Undergroung Railroad passengers were able to spend a safe night on their long and often terrifying journey.

The Journey takes place October 8 & 9 at 6:30 and 7:30pm. Spaces are limited, so reserve your place today, 630-920-2090.

Mayslake has jazz and classes

Join WDCB for the Jazz Salon at Mayslake on September 9 at 7pm. Featured artist will be Erwin Helfer, a Chicago blues and boogie-woogie innovator. Helfer is a master!

Carmelo Martino will host a Writers Craft & Critique Class September 14-October 26. Author Martino will help students develop their writing and revisions skills with both lectures and writing assignments.
